    Skill Building Workshops

Dynamic Relationship Skill-Building Workshops for Neurodiverse Couples

Facilitated by CouplesDynamix: Grace Myhill, MSW and Carol Feldman Bass, JD

We call our Workshop "Discovering Your We. Recovering Your You." It is designed to help you and your partner learn to understand each other's perspective, discover your common goals, develop communication skills, and speak to each other empathically from your hearts.

As couples coaches we understand that intimate relationships can be hard, but they are especially challenging when partners have very different perspectives, communication techniques, approaches, and skill sets.

CouplesDynamix Workshops are specifically designed for neurodiverse couples in which one partner is neurotypical and the other has – Asperger's, Asperger traits, non-verbal learning disorder, or other social anxiety.

Our Workshops address their unique and complicated communication and relationship struggles—paying close attention to the perspectives, viewpoints, and capabilities of both partners.

These specialized skill-building Workshops use a variety of interactive action methods – including Psychodrama, Sociodrama, and Improvisation – to re-create difficult real life situations and communications barriers between partners. We listen carefully and respond to everyone’s unique perspectives in a nonjudgmental, supportive, and fun atmosphere.

Couples use these real life scenarios to learn to enhance effective and empathic communication, improve the ability to understand the other's perspective, and increase self-awareness. With the support of the other couples who share similar experiences, we help participants connect, grow, and learn to think on their feet and respond in the moment from their hearts.

    Testimonials

"The workshop format was totally unexpected but in retrospect it is totally brilliant, particularly with the action making the information presented less abstract for the Asperger spouse.  For someone who has a hard time seeing another perspective this format really works!"

"I really felt as if I was currently in the situation we were acting out. Brought so much emotion that was sitting inside my heart."

"I think my husband and I both felt a glimmer of hope for where our relationship could be. I so hope we can build on this."

"The action really helped illustrate the situation from both people’s perspectives. It made emotions and experiences much more concrete."

"It opened my eyes to my wife’s feelings and emotions, and vice versa. I think that this would solidify and significantly improve our relationship."
